Wired.comTruckbot, a robot with an Android phone for a brain, has been built at a modest cost of just $30. The phone architecture allows Android software programs or apps to control the little tank-like machine.

The Android phone necessarily becomes the brain of the robot needing no external remote control. Due to the Android programming, the robot could “avoid obstacle, recognize faces and voices, pinpoint its location and go places.”

The following were the materials used to create the homemade Android Truckbot: $16 Bare bones Arduino, $3 Micro servo, $0.25 Hex inverter (handled 3.3v to 5v conversion), $4 HTC USB breakout board, $3 Mini breadboard, and $4 miscellaneous cardboard, strap ties, wires, rear wheel.
